Public transport is free for all
Since 29 February 2020, public transport throughout Luxembourg has been free for everyone. Whether you are traveling by bus, train or tram, you no longer need a ticket.
The Mullerthal Region - Luxembourg’s Little Switzerland is well served by bus lines, which can be combined with hiking tours. They enable you to leave your car at one spot and get back to it after the hike.

Getting there
By Train
If you come from Germany, you can take a train from Trier to the station of Luxembourg-City. There are trains every hour. You have the possibility to get off in Wasserbillig and continue with the bus 271 towards Echternach.
If you come from France (Paris/Nancy/Strasbourg) take the TGV in the station Paris-Est to Luxemburg City (2 hours), then change to the tram in direction Kirchberg. At the station Kirchberg Luxepxo switch to the bus from line 201 (direct) or 211/212 in direction Echternach.
If you come from Belgium you can take the train in Brussel to Luxemburg city then change to the tram in direction Kirchberg. At the station Kirchberg Luxepxo switch to the bus from line 201 (direct) or 211/212 in direction Echternach. From Liège: Start from the train station "Gare de Guillemins" to Ettelbruck, then take the bus line 190 direction Echternach.
From Luxembourg-City you can take the tram to the station Kirchberg Luxexpo. The station is connected to the bus terminal from which every 30 min the bus line 201 (direct) or 211/212 (passing over other villages) to Echternach can be reached.
By Bus
If you want to come to the region by bus, there are buses from Trier and Bitburg to Echternach. From Bitburg, line 410 brings you directly to Echternach where you can get off at three stops.
Between April 1 and November 1, you can take the RadBus line 420 from Trier to Irrel and then continue with line 431 to Bollendorf. Alternatively, you can take the RadBus line 260 directly from Trier to Ralingen. Ralingen is located on the opposite side of the river, from Rosport. The RadBus offers the possibility of bicycle transport.
Besides, you can take the bus from Trier (lines 303 or 306) to Wasserbillig and change to the bus to Echternach (line 271).
In Luxembourg-City you can take bus number 201 (direct) or 2211/212 (running over some villages) to Echternach. There is a bus every 30 minutes.
By Car
From Germany
From Trier
Take the highway A1 direction Luxembourg. After the border you take the exit Wasserbillig and then go to Echternach which you will reach after 21 km.
From Cologne
Take highway A 1 to Trier. Leave the highway in Blankenheim, then take B51 direction Trier. You then come to A60 where you will take the exit Bitburg-Luxembourg. Stay on B51 until Bitburg, then take the exit to Echternachwhich you will reach after 20 km.
From France
From France, coming from Nancy, Metz or Thionville, take the motorway A 31 to Luxembourg-City, then direction Echternach.
From Belgium
From Belgium, coming from Bruxelles, take the motorway A 4 to Luxembourg-City, then direction Echternach. If you come from Bastogne, take A 26 until the border, then Ettelbruck, Diekirch and Echternach.
From Maastricht
From Maastricht, take A 26 until the border, then Weiswampach, Ettelbruck, Diekirch, Echternach.
By Plane
There are direct flights to Luxembourg from Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, Paris, London and many more.
The closest airport in Germany is Frankfurt/Hahn.
